Xiaomi 12 – Your Compact Powerful Device
Xiaomi 12 is the company’s first compact flagship since Mi 8. The OLED display is only 6.28 inches, but the rest of the smart phone is similar to the 12 Pro. The device runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor with an Adreno 730 graphics accelerator, and the amount of RAM reaches 12 GB. The design and outlook
The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, and the back surface is Gorilla Glass 5. The glass on the back is a bit like plastic, does not slip much in the hand, and does not collect fingerprints.
The camera module is located in the upper left corner of Xiaomi, it is quite large and protrudes strongly. The main camera protrudes, even more, causing the phone to wobble on a flat surface when placed face up.
On the right side of the case are the power and volume keys, which are easy to reach with your thumb. The fingerprint scanner was under the display and is located low and uncomfortable for the finger.
On the bottom side, there is a dual SIM slot, a USB-C connector, and a speaker. Unlike many other manufacturers, Xiaomi has added a full second speaker at the top.
Smartphone’s screen
It is a 6.28-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a touch layer polling rate of 480Hz. There is a 360° light sensor, as well as 12-bit color depth – Xiaomi 12 Pro and 12 were the first smartphones with 12-bit displays, which can display up to 68 billion colors. There is support for HDR10 + and Dolby Vision technology.
A feature of the device was a 360-degree light sensor that solves some auto-brightness problems. On other smartphones, the brightness may not increase if the light source is behind the gadget, this is not the case here. Here, the brightness rises no matter where the light comes from.
The camera features
Since the smartphone is a flagship, the high quality of the shooting was expected, although the Chinese company again managed to pleasantly surprise. Photos are successful in any weather – clear and detailed, the dynamic range is wide, and there is almost no noise even when shooting indoors.
Of course, you can find fault with slightly oversaturated colors, and processing algorithms that tend to darken images for the sake of contrast. But, many users like this style even more. The main camera does not have optical zoom – only digital, in which the central part of the frame is enlarged and cropped. Detail is lost already at 2x magnification, although this is hardly noticeable on a smartphone screen.
The gadget can shoot 8K/24 fps video, as well as 4K and 1080p at 30 and 60 fps from the main camera. Ultra-wide is limited to 4K/30 fps. Electronic stabilization is available at any resolution, but Steady and Steady Pro modes can only be enabled at 1080p/30 fps.
Software
It looks like a lot of internal optimizations have been made – the CPU, RAM, and storage should now be used more efficiently. The Liquid Storage mechanism defragments data, which significantly reduces wear on the drive. Power consumption is 10% more efficient compared to MIUI 12, which improves battery life.
Component performance
It is made on a 4nm process and uses eight cores: one Cortex-X2 for the most complex tasks, three Cortex-A710, and four Cortex-A510 for less demanding processes. The Adreno 730 accelerator is responsible for the graphics.
