What Laminate Best Fits the Child’s Room?
A child’s own room is his little world. It should be beautiful, cosy, comfortable, and safe there. Often, when choosing a floor finish, people stop at a laminated flooring. What is the best laminate for a children’s room? Let’s figure it out.
Why laminate is good?
The laminate coating has serious advantages over other types when used in a children’s room: does not emit harmful substances, comfortable temperature for bare feet, combines well with the “warm floor” system, does not support combustion, many design solutions, easy to clean, hygienic, it is easy to remove traces of markers and paints from it.
Laminate has collected the advantages of parquet and boards, but it is much cheaper.
What to choose for the child’s room?
Since childhood, the child should be surrounded by things selected with taste – this is how his or her own perception of beauty is formed. Therefore, the design of the nursery should be pleasing to the eye. There are a few tricks with flooring that make a small room seem more spacious and a decent volume more comfortable.
Light colours – due to them, the inner space will seem larger.
Do not use shades of white – they get dirty easily. Do not use dark – it makes the room visually smaller. In addition, the child (due to growth) with his or her eyes will see mainly dark panels, which can negatively affect his mood.
Coloured panels: many solutions of original colours are on sale. Choose a drawing that will be in harmony with the overall interior of the room.
If it seems to you that using only laminate flooring makes the room empty, pick up a rug – it will create a visual dominant and will be comfortable for the baby if he or she wants to sit on the floor.
Safety rules
When choosing a laminate for a nursery, it is important that it is safe. One of the myths is that resins with a high content of formaldehyde are used in the production, therefore, supposedly, it is categorically impossible to use them in residential premises. However, the quality certificates necessarily contain information on the number of vapours emitted by this substance.
Antistatic treatment is another useful property. Thanks to it, the floor does not attract dirt and dust, which, on the one hand, makes cleaning easier: you can use a common floor detergent approved for use in children’s rooms. This property also reduces the likelihood of a child developing allergies.
Some floors are very slippery and can cause injury if children play actively. Therefore, we recommend choosing a laminate with relief – it also provides a pleasant micro-massage of bare feet.
Installation process
When installing, pay special attention to the evenness of the screed and a correctly laid substrate. If there are small pits, bulges, then this leads to breakage of the locks, the floors begin to creak, gaps appear between the panels, which can lead to injury.
To do this, it is not necessary to buy waterproof products for bathrooms – it is enough to follow the rules for locking the locks when laying. You can also additionally use a sealant – in this case, water spilled on the floor will not create any problems with the coating.
When deciding which laminate is better to choose for a children’s room, be guided by the main principles – safety and good appearance.
