Overview Of Lyon
Lyon is located in central France, about 200km south of Paris. It has been inhabited since before Roman times but wasn’t made into a city until 43 BC when Julius Caesar conquered Gauls. The city grew rapidly in size during 19th-century industrialization which brought many textile mills to town; today those old factories have been converted into high-end apartments while newer ones can be found on the outskirts surrounding Lyon where they serve their purpose by supplying goods such as food products for consumers living nearby or exported elsewhere throughout Europe!
Here are some of our favorite things to see and do in this amazing city
Visit Vieux Lyon. This historic district is home to some of Lyon’s most beautiful architecture. Wander through the narrow streets and admire the 15th-century buildings, or stop in at one of many restaurants and cafes for a bite to eat.
Hike up to the Basilique Notre Dame de Fourvière. This hilltop basilica offers stunning views of Lyon and the Rhone River below. Take an elevator or walk up the stairs, then enjoy sweeping panoramas from its terraces. You can also visit this church’s museum, which features religious artifacts dating back centuries!
See the Roman ruins at Fourvière. The Romans were in control of what is now Lyon for 400 years between 43 BC when they conquered Gauls until 451 AD when they were defeated by Attila Huns. Today you can see some remains of their time there at Vieux Lyon (old town) where there’s an amphitheater and a Roman theater both dating back to the first century BC so make sure not look out for these when you’re down below at Fourvière!
Visit Parc de la Tête d’Or. The largest urban park in France, this green oasis is a great place to relax. Take a stroll along its tree-lined paths or rent a boat on Lake Esplanade and explore from the water. You can also visit one of many museums inside the park including natural history museum with over 500 000 specimens spanning everything from birds to dinosaurs!
