Smart Monitor Samsung M5. Learn How It Can Substitute Your TV
Over the past few years, Smart devices have penetrated our lives so much that it is becoming more and more difficult to find things among electronics where there is no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi every day. Smart kettles, smart refrigerators, smart light bulbs, smart switches, smart TVs, and more are everywhere.
Today we will talk about a long-invented device, without which stationary PCs cannot do. We are talking about the monitor, Samsung Smart M5.
Package, appearance, connection, and complete set
The monitor comes in a compact box made of ordinary thick cardboard. Among the not very large layer of protective foam, in addition to the display itself, inside the horizontally opening package, you will find a two-piece leg, HDMI cable, remote control, power cable, quick installation guide, and warranty card.
Externally, the monitor turned out to be quite strict – with a traditional “frameless” design on three sides around the screen. Its dimensions with a leg are 615.5 x 455 x 193.5 mm. Weight without stand – 3.6 kg, withstand – only 5 kg.
The bezels around the top and side of the screen take only ~1 mm each, and the largest bezel on the bottom has a brushed metal texture – its height is 15 mm. In the middle is a slightly protruding monitor control unit with one button, which allows you not only to turn on the Samsung Smart Monitor M5 but also to adjust the volume and select the signal source.
For cable management, the manufacturer placed a special elastic band on the rack, which helps to position the wires behind it, hiding them out of sight. The leg only allows you to adjust the tilt of the monitor to 2 degrees back and 22 degrees forward.
Technical aspects, remote control, and smart features
The smart monitor received a 27-inch (68.6 cm) display – an 8-bit flat VA matrix manufactured by Samsung with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels (FHD) is used. The screen supports a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz and has a matte anti-glare surface. The typical brightness value for this matrix is 250 cd/m2, and the minimum is 200 cd/m2. The static contrast ratio is 3000:1, and the viewing angles are 178 degrees, both vertically and horizontally. The manufacturer has declared support for displaying the extended dynamic range according to the HDR10 standard. In addition, the monitor uses the fairly popular Flicker-free technology to completely prevent screen flicker. Of the wireless interfaces, WiFi 5 is available for connecting to the Internet, as well as Bluetooth 4.2 for connecting external devices, such as keyboards, mice, or audio systems with a wireless connection.
To control this monitor, a compact Bluetooth remote control is used, which is also found in conjunction with many of the company’s smart TVs. The operating system is TIZEN, the core of which is Linux. When you press the button with the house icon on the remote control, you get to the main menu of the monitor called Smart Hub.
Samsung Smart Monitor M5 is a good monitor for office work and without the need to have a PC at hand thanks to the use of Microsoft’s cloud office. With smart features and a handy remote with a voice assistant, this is, in fact, an inexpensive small TV without a tuner for lovers of digital content consumption through streaming services.
