Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+. What Surprises Should Users Expect?

We continue to get acquainted with the current line of Samsung flagship tablets. Today we review the 12.4-inch Galaxy Tab S8+.

Inside and outside

Galaxy Tab S8 + is available in two versions – only with Wi-Fi and with the presence of a mobile communication module with support for LTE and 5G. Configurations are limited to 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage, expandable with a microSDXC memory card. The choice of body colors is also traditional – graphite, silver, and rose gold. In terms of appearance, the tablet almost completely repeats its predecessor. The dimensions remain the same as the S7 + – 285 x 185 x 5.7 mm, and the weight has not changed much and is only 562 grams.

The main change in design was the frame on the ends of the device. If earlier it had a worn metal texture and a faceted chamfer along the edges, now it is neatly painted with matte paint, and the edges at the ends are simply rounded. On top of the frame are traditionally located the power and unlock button and the volume rocker, a microphone hole, and a slot for one nanoSIM card and a microSDXC memory card up to 1 TB.

In front, a large OLED screen is covered with Gorilla Glass Victus + protective glass, under which it is surrounded by a symmetrical frame with a thickness of 8 mm.

Screen, stylus, and sound

At the head of any tablet is its screen. The S8+ has a 12.4-inch Super AMOLED with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2800 by 1752 pixels (266 PPI density). The manufacturer used a similar display on the S7 +. The overall picture looks sharp, but the graininess can be seen in especially small fonts, which, however, is not so critical.

The matrix has a brightness of 480 nits and excellent contrast inherent in OLED solutions due to deep blacks. The brightness of the display is sufficient when used outdoors, even in sunny weather. Despite the glossy surface of the glass above the screen, under the direct rays of the sun, the information remains readable, although not as saturated.

As for the refresh rate, the screen supports two modes – standard and high. In the standard, it operates at 60 Hz, and in the high – at a frequency of 120 Hz.

You can interact with the screen not only with your fingers but also with a stylus. The developers have improved the response, reducing it from 9 to 2.8 ms compared to the previous generation.

Camera

In terms of cameras, the model is identical to the regular Tab S8, that is, compared to the previous generation, the ultra-wide-angle module of the main camera and the front camera has been updated. The main camera consists of two modules and a single LED flash. In good lighting conditions, the main wide-angle camera produces decent pictures with good detail and natural color reproduction.

Chip, communication, and battery

The entire line of flagship tablets is traditionally built on the latest chip from Qualcomm. The heart of the Galaxy Tab S8+ is an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm, 1 Cortex-X1 core at 3GHz, 3 Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5GHz, and 4 Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz). The Adreno 730 accelerator with a frequency of 818 MHz and 768 shader units is responsible for the graphics. The RAM in the test sample is 8 GB of the LPDDR5 type, and the built-in memory is 128 GB of the UFS 3.1 standard. As we mentioned above, the device has a memory expansion slot with support for microSD cards up to 1TB.

We hope now you understand that getting this tablet is totally worth it. To find it, just visit the Samsung UK’s website.
