Samsung Galaxy Tab S8. What Surprises It Brought to the Market?
Galaxy Tab S8 received the most compact body and LTPS screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. What’s new brought this version of the flagship tablet?
Equipment and appearance
Users can choose between 8+128 GB and 8+256 GB memory configurations, and the body of the device comes in three standard colors: graphite, silver, and rose gold. This tablet officially comes with an S Pen, a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable for charging and data transfer, a clip for the nano-SIM and microSD tray, and documentation.
The external design of the new tablet is almost identical to what we saw in the models of the S7 line. It is a body made of reinforced aluminum at the ends and at the back. As before, the ends have a chopped shape, and the front of the screen is completely covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Dust and moisture protection according to the IP68 standard, which was in the previous generation of flagship tablets, is missing here.
The dimensions of the device compared to the previous one have not changed at all and are 253.8 x 165.3 x 6.3 mm, and the weight is 515 grams. The stylus weighs another 8 grams. The tablet is quite comfortable to hold in one hand while reading.
Screen, sound, usage, and convenience
Unlike the older models, which use proprietary Super AMOLED matrices, the younger version has an 11-inch screen on an LTPS matrix with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The screen resolution is 2560×1600 (274 PPI) with a maximum brightness of 480 nits.
The 11-inch screen is well suited for creative pursuits, and the included stylus is a great addition. S Pen is conveniently attached to the end of the slot for nano-SIM and microSD during use.
To organize work on the tablet, it is possible to arrange up to three applications in split-screen mode. Convenient and quick addition of the necessary program windows is provided by the “Sidebar”, which can always be pulled out on the right side by the protruding transparent tab.
On the sides of the tablet are two speakers. Traditionally, the Austrian company AKG was responsible for working on them. The maximum volume is at a decent level – there is even a little bass. There’s also the now-common Dolby Atmos support, where customization is available for several popular types of content and there’s a separate 9-band equalizer that lets you adjust the frequency range from 63Hz to 16kHz.
Camera
The interface of the “Camera” application is generally ordinary and practically does not differ from other tablets with One UI shells. By default, the selfie camera shoots at a resolution of 3 megapixels with a reduced capture angle due to the image crop. The maximum recording resolution on the tablet’s camera is available in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, but only the 13 MP wide-angle lens has this capability.
Under the hood, communications, battery
The core of the system is the latest 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm, 1 Cortex-X1 core at 3 GHz, 3 Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5 GHz, and 4 Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8 GHz). The Adreno 730 accelerator with a frequency of 818 MHz and 768 shader units is responsible for the graphics. RAM in the test sample is 8 GB of LPDDR5 type, and the built-in memory is 128 GB of UFS 3.1 standard. The device has a slot for expanding the memory with support for microSD cards up to 1 TB.
The internal components of the device are powered by a non-removable 8000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, as in the previous S7. This battery is enough for about 13 hours of web surfing and 15 hours of offline video viewing, which is an excellent result in the segment – for active use for 1.5 days or 2-3 pm during leisure, its autonomy should be enough.
