Flagships. Exynos vs Snapdragon

Samsung has long offered two flavors of its high-end Galaxy smartphones with a difference in the chipset. Exynos also includes the flagship Arm Mali-G77 MP11 GPU and a dual-core neural processing unit (NPU) designed for machine learning. It is made using 7nm technology.

Mid-range chipsets

Previously, Samsung’s mid-range Exynos processors were pretty mediocre, but developers have raised the bar in the past few years. Leading the list is the 8nm Exynos 980 chipset, aimed at the upper mid-range smartphone segment.

It is the first mid-range chipset to offer support for sub-6GHz 5G networks. Unlike the high-end Exynos 990, you won’t get mmWave support here. However, the rest of the specs are quite solid and include an octa-core processor (two Cortex-A77 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores), a Mali-G76 MP5 GPU, and an NPU for machine learning tasks.

Budget line smart phones

As you would expect from this segment, Samsung’s truly budget processors were up to the mark. Exynos 850 is the latest chipset of this line, which is almost the most energy efficient in the Exynos family.

The Exynos 850 offers an octa-core Cortex-A55 processor, delivering lower power consumption and improved efficiency compared to earlier low-end Exynos chipsets that run on octa-core or even quad-core Cortex-A53 processors. The Mali-G52 MP1 coprocessor is responsible for graphics processing. The 850th model supports a camera of up to 48 megapixels.

The Exynos 850 combines a lightweight, efficient processor with an 8nm design that delivers significant power savings compared to other budget Exynos chips. This processor powers the Galaxy A21s with a 5000 mAh battery, so you can expect a very long battery life from this smartphone. But the fast launch of advanced 3D games should not be expected, as well as fast loading in general or high camera performance.
