What it consists of?
The composition of the glue pencil includes two main components: directly adhesive, which has good adhesive properties, and a moisturizer. On the basis of chemical composition, there are two types of glue.
Glue-pencil based on PVA (adhesive substances – polyvinyl acetate) and water (humidifier).
Glue is based on PVP (adhesive – polyvinylpyrrolidone) and glycerine as a moisturizer.
PVP glue retains its adhesive properties longer but is almost twice as expensive. PVA glue is cheaper but dries quickly when the cap is tightly closed. Some types of glue-pencil change their colour depending on the stage of drying, which is very convenient for quality control of gluing.
Main properties of both types of the pencil glue
Despite the differences in composition, both types of stationery glue-pencil have many common properties, the main of which are the following.
Absolute non-toxicity. The glue is harmless even in close contact with the skin. Being completely safe in chemical terms, the glue pencil does not cause harm, even if it gets inside (we are talking, of course, about children who can “eat” anything, including glue). However, you should not risk the health of children in any case, and if you notice that the child, fascinated by the application, bit off a piece of glue pencil, it is better to consult a doctor.
Ergonomics. Glue-pencil is confidently ahead of the traditional types of stationery glue, due to its exceptional ease of use: it does not spill, does not contaminate hands and adjacent areas of the surface, no odour.
Cost-effectiveness. Thanks to the convenient tube and functional system of drawing, glue-pencil is spent very economically therefore even small packing will be enough for you for a long time. By the way, the glue pencil has a long shelf life, you can store it for 1.5-3 years without fear that the composition will dry out.
There are some differences between PVA-based and PVP-based adhesives. Yes, PVP glue is considered more “professional”. It has better adhesion to different types of paper and textiles, is frost resistant, and has a longer shelf life.
The essential advantage of pencil glue is that its application to the surface deforms the material, which can occur when using ordinary stationery glue. This is very important when gluing papers and documents. The use of glue-pencil makes it possible to glue everything very quickly and accurately, without fear that excess glue will contaminate the surface and make it sticky.
