Lake Garda. Perfect Italian Spot! Get to Know Why

Lake Garda, or Lago di Garda as the locals call it, is the largest lake in Italy and is located between Lombardy and the Veneto region, halfway between Venice and Milan. Its geological and morphological characteristics take us back in time, about 4-5 million years ago! Its sights and culture are relatively young since they date back to the medieval era. Traces of the formation of the lake, as well as how people lived off its resources, can be found in the cities and parks of Mai. Lago di Garda offers a great holiday where you can find beauty, history, relaxation, and fun. Even if it seems like a popular destination, Lake Garda still hides gems and uncrowded places where only locals (people and swans!) can be found.

Sirmione

This popular town (far less visited, but still stunning if you go in spring or autumn) is known for its turquoise waters and many small streets where wild flowers grow on every brick wall and where you can find all sorts of local delicacies.

Punta San Vigilio

If you want to feel like you’re on the beach (but you don’t want sand everywhere) and you want to enjoy the blue water, Punta San Vigilio is where you should be. There are many small pebbly beaches with stunning waters. This place is not so famous, but truly heavenly: the water is not salty and warm, the horizon has mountains, and the waves are never big. Enjoy your day here and you will feel recharged!

Riva del Garda

If you need an active holiday, be sure to check out Riva del Garda. Rock climbing on the lake, windsurfing, paragliding on the water, cycling, and much more – that’s what you’ll find here. The wind in Riva del Garda has created ideal conditions for water sports and offers a pleasant breeze if you are acting out of the water. Just stop by one of the many sports shops and rent the gear you need (in case you don’t already have it) and enjoy!

Peschiera del Garda

Another beautiful city were walking through the beautiful streets will make you forget any troubles, Peschiera del Garda offers both breathtaking views, lots of covers to go swimming and delicious food! Lake Garda is known for its Risotto con la Tinca, Coregone al Forno, Bigoli co le Aole, Carne Salada, and many more depending on the season.

Desenzano

Desenzano has something special to offer, and we’re not talking about its beautiful streets, delicious food, or rich history. We’re talking about swimming with the swans! Swans (white, black, and group) can be found on many of Desenzano’s smaller beaches, and they are likely to swim next to you if they see you in the water. Avoid feeding them as they can get aggressive (because they will keep craving food), but don’t forget to take pictures!

And by the way, did you know that the special ecosystem of the lake allows the production of unique olive oil, unique and not found anywhere else, except in the cities on Lake Garda? Don’t forget to buy a bottle – it’s not only tasty but also very healthy!
