Get Yourself Secured With a Proper Bicycle Helmet

Get Yourself Secured With a Proper Bicycle Helmet

A bicycle helmet is an essential part of an athlete’s outfit. You need to buy it along with the bike or even earlier – and exactly before the moment, you decide to get behind the wheel for the first time. Because no one is safe from accidents and falls – even a professional cyclist.

The right helmet is one that is comfortable, comfortable, fits well, looks good, and suits your individual riding style. Cycling helmets are different – and we will tell you how to choose the right model.

Cross country helmet

The most common type of cycling helmet. It is used for driving on highways and mountain roads without extreme elements. It is lightweight, well ventilated, and equipped with a visor that will protect you from the headlights of oncoming traffic, direct sunlight, rain, and, most importantly, dirt. In some embodiments, the visor may be removable. The package may include additional removable protection for the jaw.

Standard equipment includes body, outer and inner shell, reinforced carcass, and visor. The size can be adjusted by means of a strap with buckles and a lock, sliders, or an adjustment disk. Inside, foam pads are attached to the body with Velcro, which enhances protection and absorbs sweat.

Cycling helmet design

Regardless of the type of bike helmet, their design is generally the same. The main elements are as follows:

  • Foam materials are used for its manufacture – for example, polypropylene foam or foam styrene. Its main function is protective, it is the body that “extinguishes” the mechanical force of impact when falling.
  • Outer coating – performs a protective function, distributes the impact load evenly over the entire surface of the helmet, and allows you to slide on asphalt, reducing the impact force. It also performs an aesthetic function – design drawings are applied to the outer shell.
  • Straps and adjustment tools – provide a secure fit on the head and adjust the size of the helmet.
  • Soft pads – serve for comfortable wearing, secure fixation, sometimes – for adjusting the size.
  • Ventilation holes – improve ventilation, cool. Otherwise, in the heat, the head can simply “mate”.
  • Mosquito net, visor, and reflective elements are optional attributes that provide additional comfort for riding in different conditions.

How often should you change your helmet?

Manufacturers suggest that the functional life of a bicycle helmet is 3-5 years. But in practice, it wears out faster. The fact is that the polymers from which bicycle helmets are made deteriorate from ultraviolet radiation and temperature changes, and skating involves prolonged exposure to the sun. Therefore, it should be changed every 2-3 years.

But this is the case if the helmet was not subjected to physical and mechanical stress. If you fell or got into an accident, and the equipment took a hit on itself, change it.

How to wear a bicycle helmet?

The helmet is put on at a right angle, securely fixed with straps and clasps. The visor or body must not block the view.

Usually, the helmet is equipped with a special adjustment ring. Tighten it slowly until the helmet fits securely and comfortably. It is important that he does not sting, does not squeeze, but sits tightly. But most importantly, you should always wear a helmet. Even if you decide to ride in the backyard. Discipline matters!
