Camisole. What Is It and What are the Ways of Wearing It?
The idea of using garments that either belong to the category of underwear or look very similar to it is not nearly as fresh as it might seem. Today, the lingerie style of clothing no longer surprises anyone: slip dresses are widely used for every day and even festive outfits, in a relaxed urban style, satin or silk pajamas, corsets, and bustiers, and, of course, camisoles are often found.
What is camisole?
A camisole is a short top with thin straps, which was traditionally used as underwear. Figuratively speaking, this is a very shortened combination, sewn from light fabric – satin, silk, etc. The camisole can be both laconic in its decoration and quite elegant through the use of lace inserts. A simple cut and elegant minimalism in the decoration allowed one day to prompt some fashionistas to think about using this top as an independent piece of clothing. Since then, camisole has been a frequent element of casual urban style outfits. Looking modern and stylish in this T-shirt is not difficult, especially if you take into account some of the nuances of current trends.
How to wear a camisole?
First, about purely practical things. There are no rules regarding the width of the straps, modern fashion for this top does not present. But from a purely everyday point of view, it is much more convenient to wear a camisole if the straps do not resemble spaghetti in appearance but are at least about 2-2.5 cm wide. This allows you to hide the straps of the bra without creating unaesthetic weave straps, and at the same time, the strap of the bag worn over the shoulder does not rub the skin. But, by the way, such an observation is just a personal preference, which we do not insist on Camisol: new rules for an old piece of clothing If you like thin and narrow straps, and they do not cause any discomfort – of course, wear them with pleasure.
The camisole can be worn as a separate item of clothing, or as part of multi-layered outfits. But, in whatever capacity this top is used, it should have the “square” shape that is relevant today, which provides a moderately loose fit. Older models of camisoles were often sewn in such a way that they fit the body quite tightly, but today the use of such things is a direct way to create an old-fashioned look.
The current loose fit necessarily leaves some space between the fabric and the skin, and this allows you to beautifully wear the camisole both loose and tucked in. By the way, if you tuck the camisole into the belt of your trousers, shorts, or skirt, then raise your hands up and stretch a little. This will create a slight slouch along the waistline, a small but fashionable detail. Another important point in styling camisoles is the rejection of the combination of a tight top and low-rise jeans. In the mid-90s, this option was very common, but in the light of modern trends, the combination of a loose-fitting T-shirt and a high waistband of trousers is relevant.
Perhaps this enumeration of new methods for styling an old piece of clothing can be considered complete.
