Bus, Taxi and Express. Three Main Ways to Get From Heathrow to London. Which One is the Fastest?

London Heathrow Airport is one of the largest air hubs in Europe. It ranks seventh in the list of the busiest airports in the world, serving more than 80 million passengers annually. In this article, you will learn how to get from it to the city center, and what is still better than a car, bus or a fast express?

Heathrow Airport

The airport has 5 terminals. Free trains leave every 15 minutes from Heathrow Central Station, located between Terminals 2 and 3. You can get a ticket in a special machine or simply attach an Oyster transport card or a contactless bank card to the turnstile – payment will not be deducted from them.

The airport is the base for British Airways, but in addition to it, flights from dozens of airlines from around the world arrive here.

The first way to get to the city is to use a bus or taxi

During the day, London can be reached from Heathrow Airport by the National Express branded bus. Its terminuses are Victoria Station in London and the Central Bus Station at the airport. Between them, the express also makes a stop at Earl’s Court. At Heathrow Airport, the bus station (Central Bus Station) is located near Terminals 1-3. From Terminals 4-5, the bus stop can be reached by train or free shuttle bus.

The duration of the bus trip depends on traffic congestion, so it is impossible to predict the exact time. Approximately the trip can take from 50 minutes to one and a half hours.

Taxi. Near the exit of each airport terminal, you can see London taxis or, as they are also called, cabs. Taxis can be ordered in advance via the Internet (they will most likely charge an additional fee) or in the arrivals hall of the airport, where taxi kiosks are located. Here are the names of some of them: Airport Cars, Cheap Airports Cars, UK Airports Cars Ltd., and others. Each company has fixed rates, and meters are installed in the cars. Please note that each taxi service charges extra for credit card payment, extra stops, night-time, waiting at the airport for more than 40-50 minutes, as well as for work during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Heathrow Express

The most popular way to get to London by train is the Heathrow Express. The Heathrow Express train will take you from the airport to the centre of London in 15 minutes – London Paddington Station, close to Hyde Park and the famous Oxford Street. The train follows non-stop and runs from dusk to dawn every day.

Travelling on the Heathrow Express is not only fast but also comfortable.

On-board television. On-board Express TV service provides BBC World News, weather, and entertainment highlights, as well as trip-related information. BBC World News is the global leader in breaking news. The BBC is the most trusted global news brand, providing the most important stories from across the world.

Everyone has easy access. A Heathrow Express train has no steps. Level platform access means no wrestling with bags and simple wheelchair boarding (there are dedicated wheelchair areas throughout the train too).
