How to Get a Good Cooker Hood?

How to Get a Good Cooker Hood?

When choosing a hood for the kitchen, first of all, you need to pay attention to the type of installation. Hoods can be built-in, suspended and domed. Let’s consider each type in more detail.

Main types

Built-in – the most suitable option for small kitchens. Typically, these hoods are built into the cabinet and can be pulled out and operated even when it is closed. Can also be hidden under the countertop.

Suspended – the most common and budget option. Mounts on a wall or under a cabinet. The working area of such a hood is equal to the hob above which it is located. It has a low height, so it takes up less space than a dome hood.

Dome models are usually flashy and expensive models. The body is made in the form of a dome, where air enters, and then goes into ventilation. Such hoods are divided into several types: wall-mounted – traditionally mounted on the wall horizontally to the hob or at an angle, island – attached to the ceiling, due to which they can be located in any part of the kitchen. Suitable for spacious rooms where a work area with a hob is located, for example, in the centre.  Corner – thanks to a special design, they can be mounted in the corner of the room. This is convenient if the kitchen is very small, and it is not possible to place the hood elsewhere. Not a very common option.

Noise level

Quite an important parameter. When choosing a hood, it is best to check the model for the noise it makes. It should be remembered that the device is louder after installation.

The noise emitted by the hood should not exceed 50-55 dB. This is considered the average acceptable value. 30-40 dB is a very quiet operating hood, 40-50 dB is a quiet one, and a device with a noise level above 100 dB is considered to have a bad effect on human health.

Since the performance of the device and the noise of its operation are directly interconnected, then when choosing a hood, it is very important to correctly combine these two indicators.

A small piece of advice. Choose a hood model that works at second speed (usually there are three of them) that will be enough for your kitchen. At the last speed, almost all hoods make a noticeable noise, including the most expensive ones.

Lightning

Lighting can be represented by different types of lamps. It should be strong enough to see the dish even when the stationary light is off. Some models have a light focusing function, thanks to which you can direct the light in the desired direction.

Control type

Mechanical – the simplest model, the device is adjusted using sliders or buttons.

Electronic – these are models with a touch panel and display. Adjustable by pressing the corresponding button. Such hoods are more expensive than the previous version. They also have additional control options, such as an automatic switch-on using a sensor or intensive hood operation.
