What Shoes Should Be Chosen for Safe and Easy Driving?
At the height of the summer season, we wanted to remind drivers of the importance of what appears to be a minor component of a driver’s equipment, shoes. After all, with the arrival of summer, many of us prefer to expose our legs as much as possible when driving. When driving in inappropriate footwear or without footwear, the driver may lose contact with the vehicle.
To help minimise road accidents and emergencies, we’ve compiled a list of the most dangerous driving shoes.
The shoes that are not fit for driving
Slippers. Flip-flops and other open-toed slippers are examples. They are the most dangerous to drive an automobile, according to several research. The biggest problem is that they can easily slip off the foot or get under the pedal. It would be superfluous to discuss the negative repercussions, such as increased response time or braking distance.
Slippers for the house. The issue is identical with handmade rags or rubber slippers. Despite having a closed toe, such shoes do not keep the foot firmly on the pedals and cause
High-heel shoes. Women are usually in this situation. All kinds of stilettos and massive heels above 3 cm are contraindicated for safe driving. The hairpin will sooner or later catch on the mat, and due to the excessive height of the heel, you have to straighten the foot strongly, which affects fatigue and leads to an emergency.
In addition, according to the results of surveys of female drivers, many of them note that such shoes often fall off and get stuck between the pedals.
Shoes with a thick platform. Perhaps such shoes or even sneakers are comfortable enough for everyday wear, but it is better to refuse them in a car. In such shoes, the dimensions of the pedals are poorly felt, and the pressure exerted on them is dulled.
So, what is the best for safe driving?
The main thing is that it tightly fixes the foot, has a rounded toe, a heel no higher than 3 cm, and a non-slip sole with an optimal shape and thickness. If the shoes are high (boots), then the ankle area should be soft and elastic so as not to restrict the movement of the joint.
Many shoe manufacturers, sometimes even in collaboration with well-known car brands, have long been releasing shoe models for drivers. One of the most common is moccasins. They allow you to feel the pedals well thanks to a thin embossed sole, which, due to a smooth transition for the heel area slightly upwards, allows the foot to move freely and precisely even on the softest mat.
Of course, the best option for the driver would be special car boots in which everything is taken into account: from soft breathable materials to thoughtful cool soles.
